地球周!!

4月17日 & 18, 2024 by the BOB全站 WVC campus fountain

Zero Waste Wednesday: 10:30am - Join a tour of our Campus 'food to worms to compost to greenhouse' process. Then at 11am, make your own worm bin to compost food waste 在家里. At 12pm, come learn how to reduce your waste to improve your ecological footprint! All events start at the fountain. 

Thankful Thursday: 12pm - 免费的午餐  served by the fountain for the first 100 students and staff. 在12:30,学习如何 to measure carbon in our trees! 12:45 is the stormwater drain Art Contest using sidewalk 粉笔! Grab a friend or two at 1pm to take the 可持续性 Scavenger Hunt and 赢得奖项! The fun continues with a wildflower hike at the Jacobson Preserve Trail (park at 1913 Skyline Dr) from 3pm-4:30pm. 

The public is invited to our 地球周 finale on Thursday, from 7-8pm in the Grove Recital Hall to hear from Kurt Caswell, visiting writer from the Honors College at Texas Tech University. Kurt will share the stage with the student winners of WVC's Annual Earth Day Poetry Contest.

气候变化 & Agriculture in Eastern WA

Public presentation by Chad Kruger on climate impacts for our regional agriculture and creative solutions for dealing with it.  This event is the first in the Climate Solutions speaker series. Chad Kruger currently  directs WSU's Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center in BOB全站 and Center for Sustaining Agriculture & 自然 资源.

WVC celebrated Arbor Day with Washington State’s first Native Poet Laureate, Rena Priest, who read poems about trees, joining fellow contributors to the Cascadia Field 指南书.

In honor of Black 历史 Month, noted writer and ornithologist 了台北 gave a reading and discussed the intersection between race and the environment with our panel.
